Toyota to Produce Prius Hybrids in U.S.
Submitted by EcoActionT... on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 9:40am.
The Toyota Prius Hybrid is one of the most popular green vehicles on the market, but up until now, it was only manufactured in China and Japan. But due to rising fuel prices and more customers demanding eco-friendly vehicles, Toyota has decided to open its first U.S. facility in Blue Springs, Missouri by the year 2010.
Why the Change?
Well, Toyota was originally going to use the Blue Springs plant for the new Highlander SUV, but since SUV’s are gas guzzlers, and that’s the last thing people want, they have decided to change plans. Plus, the demand for the Toyota Prius has been so huge that they just couldn’t avoid the demand of the masses. The company is also going to decrease production of all their other lines of SUVs, not only because they are not making any profit for the company, but also because they are contributors of CO2 emissions. Here’s the entire story from NPR.
This
year the Toyota Prius is already on backorder, so this new initiative
by Toyota to expand its production will be great for the future of hybrid vehicles.
If only Toyota could start this production in the U.S. sooner… (2 votes) »
