I am a high school student in connecticut and my school is trying to recycle more. We want to make people aware of the benefits of recycling and the problems not recycling can cause. Unfortunately, only one teacher really cares about it and only a few students. »

I hear ya
We have a Green Crew at my school and until this year it's been really hard getting our paper recycling program going. Now, we've been consistent in collecting the recycling and putting it in our paper dumpster (do you have one of those? They're great.) and people know if they put trash in it, heads are gonna roll. Today we actually had to climb into the dumpster to get a lot of plastic and cardboard out. Gross, but worth it.
We have been having a really hard time finding out how to get a plastic/glass/etc. program started. Any tips? Any ideas would definitely be appreciated, even though we've called and e-mailed just about everyone who would know anything about it and none of them have answers. Anyway, I hope you can get your program going and get more kids into being green!!
Low Carbon Diet
Hi, I can sympathize with your situation. It's hard to get people to change unless they want to. Have your teacher look at this course material and see if it's useful. I'm reading a book from this program and I love it!

And, if you are looking for inspiration: Check out this school that's doing incredible amounts of recycling and thousands of people participate:

Don't give up! That's why we are on Greenopolis to make small incremental changes!
Good luck!
My freshman year we tried
My freshman year we tried recycling at our school and it was a disaster. We put up cardboard recycling bins around the school for things like paper and plastic and aluminum but people kept throwing food and anything BUT what it was supposed to be used for. We had to scrap that after just one year. I hope your plan works a lot better than ours.
