The Tire Gauge Controversy-Saving Gas?

Barack Obama recently said that Americans should tune up their cars and keep
their tires properly inflated to save gas. He said that doing so would save
more oil than what would be gained by offshore drilling. The McCain campaign
jumped on it and began handing out tire gauges marked "Obama Energy
Policy".

But politics aside, what's the data? IN a recent Time article, the
estimates of the Bush Administration state that expanding offshore drilling
could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. Americans now
use about 20 million bbl.

If the earth were a small globe

“If the Earth Were Small"

If the Earth were
only a
few feet in diameter, floating a
few feet above a field somewhere, people
would come from everywhere to marvel at it. People
would walk around it, marvelling at its big pools of water,
its little pools, and the water flowing between the pools. Peo-
ple would marvel at the bumps on it, and the holes in it, and the dif-
ferent areas on it.

Thin Ice

65 degrees. That's what the weather report said this
morning.  65 degrees. Two words, 5
syllables. Just a speck of information. Why does it cause such an uneasy
feeling in me?

Well, because it's March 5th, for one thing. And I'm in
northeastern Minnesota,
a mere 10 miles from the Canadian border for another. And it's the third or
fourth day of record temperatures in a row. Record, in this case means the
warmest temperatures recorded at this time of year since recording began, over
100 years ago..

Mexican fishing story- a cautionary tale

An American businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican
village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the
small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the
Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

Rise up and do it! Call to action song

CO2 is rising in the atmosphere

Seas too are rising and global temperature

The good life that we’re living is
coming at a cost

Time to take some action and save
what might be lost

Rise up and do it, Rise up and do
it

Rise up and do it right now
