Steam powered car

So... I've talked to a few people, and they say that it wouldn't work, but I'll give it a go. And also.... it might work. We've sent people, like human beings into outer space, so I think that we can try this. What I was thinking was... what if you had a steam engined car? Like, if the engine was a steam engine rather than one that burned gas, then steam, which would eventually cycle back through the water cycle until it became water again, would be emitted, rather than CO2. Some people have said, well it wouldn't go as fast, it would only go about 15 mph. Think about it, if people are going 15 mph, meaning not just elderly, no offense to anyone who is, but if EVERYONE was going 15 mph, do you think that there would be anywhere NEAR as many car accidents as there are, if even any? I bet scientists could give it a try, they could figure out SOMEHOW to heat all that water, couldn't they? Again, THEY'VE SENT HUMAN BEINGS INTO OUTER SPACE! THEY'VE CREATED ATOMIC BOMBS! TO EVEN THINK THAT THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO HEAT UP A FEW GALLONS OF WATER IN A TANK IS A JOKE!

Practical steam cars

I guess there are three things to say here - firstly, practical steam cars stil burn fuel - but they can burn less refined fuel - but they burn the fuel completely so they don't produce bad emissions. And yes they could burn hydrogen which would just produce water vapour as exhaust. Second thing is that Abner Doble made cars that started with the press of a button could go from a cold start in 30 seconds and had a top speed around 80 mph - but they went out of business in the late 1920s. The third is that using modern materials steam cars could be produced that were reliable, fast and esy to drive, but they are likely to be more expensive than petrol cars because the steam generator or boiler would need to be quite sophisticated and would probably be made in small numbers. Bottom line is it's possible, but it might take a big hike in fuel price before more modern ones are built.

...I'm pretty sure there have been steam powered automobiles for quite a number of decades. The problem is that people are looking for speed and convenience, so no one is buying them anymore. That's why the electric car is such an uphill battle. The first hill with any new transportation technology is technical, but the second (and often larger) is economic. How do we convince people that they need it and should pay for it (especially if it's more expensive)?

Cheers!

As we stand on the precipice of 2009, perhaps we should think about the future.  And part of that thinking may involve re-thinking the whole concept of futures as they apply to investments.  Right now the concept of futures is really one of gambli...
