Diesel Van Ad
Greenopolis Founder

Green Hott...

Boy for a website that preaches nothing but save the planet and "GREEN" this and "GREEN that. it sure doesn’t practice it. Why in the hell would a site dedicated to "GREEN" let a company that hurts the environment advertise here. Think Green alright! Green as in money! Think Green, unless you can make a lot of money should be your slogan Greenopolis!.... What a joke!

Language, tone, and Data

Wildman in the tall grass

There are a lot of young folks on this site, friend, and your language in this post is a little over the top. Don't know if you have kids, but I sure don't want mine exposed to this kind of language- even with asterisks in place of letters.

I also teach my kids to make constructive criticism- not angry tirades. Did this one ad on the website really upset you that much? There is a lot of greenwashing out there, but if we get enough eyes in this community on watch, we'll be able to separate the wheat fromthe chaff.

Every company hurts the environment. Every auto maker, every "green' product manufacturer. Not one is sustainable. We want to encourage every one of 'em to move in the right direction. Some have further to go than others.

Read my post to "thinkgreenwhenconvinient" (his spelling) on diesel and biodiesel- I'm looking forward to diesel replacing a lot of gas cars- many good reasons for that. If you see a cigarette manufacturer or weapons of mass destruction manufacturer offering "green" cigarettes or "green" chemical weapons, then I'll raise a stink with you.

But please next time, take a breath, get your data straight and vetted and consider the whole community reading here before you launch into a tirade. We want to have a peaceable, constructive effort here.

It seems like everyone in this country has just come to accept certain things as either good or bad. Nothing can ever be marginal or in development. Nothing can ever have potential, but rather if it isn't perfect it's a bad thing.

It is incredibly ignorant to assume that just because something is diesel it is bad just like it would be ignorant to assume that just because a Prius is a hybrid it is good. Were you aware that a Jetta TDI gets better mileage and is twice the car of the Prius? Were you aware that the first diesel engine designed more than 100 years ago was supposed to run on vegetable oil? Have you ever thought about what we're going to do with all of those batteries out of the hybrids when they die in 10 years thus totalling the car? No, you didn't. Why? Because you let the media do your thinking for you.

I agree with you Godsdog about the language and I did rectify that but, I want to exactly where I went wrong on my "tirade". All I said was that it was awful that a site promoting "GREEN" is letting a dirty diesel van advertise. It seems hypocritical to me.

Never did I say that the Dodge Sprinter was bad. All I said was that this site is very hypocritical. They shouldn't be supporting a totally diesel vehical and saying "THINK GREEN". Like I said before the only "GREEN" they're thinking is the cash in their pockets!

Diesel vehicles offer versatility that gas engines cannot. Ever read up on bio-diesel? If you don’t like the fact that this website has advertisements, then I suggest you pony up the money for them to pay their staff and overhead costs so they can do away with these advertisements.

I know that the Sprinter is not the worst thing that could be on here advertising, but we're all supposed to be thinking "GREEN" I don't see how a 3.0-liter CDI Turbo diesel V6 with five-speed automatic transmission is "GREEN". I have a question for you my friend. Ever read up on bio-diesel? There is a difference. I never said a word about bio-diesel. If this was a bio-diesel van, I'd have no problems. I also love that this country is a capitalist society, but you should have some ettics when it comes to advertising. Do you think a show dovoted to working out and health concerns is going to have McDonalds advertising with them? Also what about Ema, seventh generation, deans beans, Waste Management, Green Mountain? You don't think theses companies donate enough to keep this up and running? You know a domain name and server space does not cost that much. I think that these companies would have no problems coughing up a couple extra dollars to support their cause. The slogan should be "ACT GREEN" because anybody can think. I just don like hypocritical people telling me what I should be doing when they are not.

Think Black!.... Hell for that matter Act Black!

There are a lot of people on this site who have misconceptions about what is green, and what is not. If half the people around here had there way, we would all be driving a Prius and eating nothing but steamed vegetables. I’m sorry if you construed my post as some sort of attack of you and your ideas. I was trying to express the fact that infrastructures cost money, and companies pay those bills by selling advertisements. And of all the ads to post, the one you mentioned wasn’t as evil as some would like to believe. I in no way intended to put you or your thoughts down. You can have your black movement, I will stick with my idea of green.

I WILL stick with my "BLACK" movement

I never construed your post as some sort of attack on me and my ideas. All I said was that, that was one of the most hypocritcal things I've ever seen. I know there are bills to be paid, but don't sell ads to companies that are in no way "GREEN". That's all I was trying to say!

Even if you don’t like it, you have to accept the fact that we live in a capitalist society. And of all the vehicles to post advertisements for, a diesel van is far from the worst.

Diesel vehicles offer versatility that gas engines cannot. Ever read up on bio-diesel? This isn’t some far fetched concept – it is here now, and works with existing technologies. You can go on to discuss that holy-grail that so many see hybrid cars as being, but the fact remains that hybrids cannot create the power needed to move cargo, and they still require gasoline (i.e., petroleum). The Dodge Sprinter is a van based on the Mercedes-Benz cargo van sold in Europe. And believe me when I say it is superior to most any other cargo van sold in this country.

If you don’t like the fact that this website has advertisements, then I suggest you pony up the money for them to pay their staff and overhead costs so they can do away with these advertisements.

Wait a sec...

WHAT?!?!?!

What do you mean? what did they advertise??? but you know, if they get companies o here to advertise their products people may be more influenced to join the site. just a thought. and if people see something they like on the site they may think that they support the site, (which usually is the case) and join. but i think we should advertise more GREEN things.
