The Beginning of a Revolution

green_bobydia

Hello anyone willing to read this! I'm green_bobydia and this is my blog. It's just kinda like a journal and a daily tracker for things that I do that can be counted as green. This will help me a WHOLE LOT! :P

Things that are just habits for me are brushing teeth with faucet off, making sure all faucets are only running when necessary, turning off lights when exiting a room, using lights only when necessary, not watching too much TV, letting natural light shine into a room instead of electric lights, carpooling with friends to school, taking bus home, I used to walk to school, throwing away my trash, picking up any litter I find, taking short showers, reusing paper that can be reused, unplugging stuff that needs to be, reusing plastic containers, and using a lunch box instead of plastic/paper bags. My family also recycles what we can in our "small" city - cardboard, some plastics, aluminum cans, and newspaper.

I really would like to start being a little bit more resourceful and just generally more green. I have an okay list above, but I need to do more. There's just not a whole lot a kid going on 13 can do. I seriously have no idea, but I'm sure that joining Greenopolis will be a giant leap towards my goal and the goal of many good humans around the entire world.

One other recent thing I did was purchase two pairs of shoes from an Eco-Friendly shoe company called Simple Shoes. They are made mostly of recycled materials and come in recycled boxes with reduced packaging. The shoes are very comfy and cute, and I got them at a discount price. The shoes even contain organic materials, which I think is pretty cool. Organic and Green go hand in hand, don't they? :D

Start a recycling campaign at your school

Default Avatar

One thing you can do is start a recycling campaign at your school if one's not already in place. If there is one in place, make sure it is efficient (that it's easy to use) and that everyone is using it.
Also, did you know there is so much plastic floating in the ocean that it takes up the size of the United States! It's crazy!

The Human Future

Welcome aboard. It is essentially for the future of humankind that everybody becomes environmentally conscious and behaves accordingly, just as you have embarked upon doing. Right now humankind is like a vast flock of manic birds that is busy frantically destroying its nest, planet earth, most often for the purposes of trying to make monetary profits which profits will actually be worse than useless once life on the planet has been destroyed. We are part and parcel of the web of life on earth, not its overlords, as our behaviour often seems to indicate that we believe we are. We have to learn to work cooperatively with the rest of the web rather than ruthlessly exploiting it which is what we do at the moment. This is something that as species we are just beginning to learn to do so it is fantastic that you have come on board at the age thirteen. You have your life ahead of you whereas I, at the age of 69, am on my way out.
