Path to Freedom

GreenElephant

I recently found the Path to Freedom site through one of Debra Lynn Dadd's newsletters (http://dld123.com/debraslist/list.php?topic=Food#L01155). The Path to Freedom website (http://www.pathtofreedom.com/) contains direct links to the projects and story behind the Dervaes Family, a Pasadena, CA, family who grow their own food in a 10th of an acre city lot which also contains their home. They also have certain farm animals like goats and chickens (only for milk and eggs, as I understand it), and they try to minimize their impact in any way possible. Their innovative solutions include using handheld appliences and solar ovens for cooking. Their website is really amazing and inspiring, although the link above is the lastest version and some parts are not quite ready for browsing. These people have such a beautiful front yard, they even make me want to grow something -- and I have the blackest thumb anyone's ever seen!! Embarassed

My wife and I have visited their very small homestead and it is amazing what they have done with this very small piece of land in a Southern California neighborhood. People should visit the site and find out what they are doing--there are lessons from everyone in the way they live.
