Virtualization
The hottest trend right now in green computing centers around virtualization. For those not familiar with the topic, virtualization allows you to running multiple operating systems on a single piece of hardware. The benefit to this is that you maximize resource utilization on a server while lowering power consumption and reducing cooling costs. VMWare is perhaps the best-known vendor providing virtualization software. However, Microsoft is in the game as well, and Xen, a new vendor on the scene, has some pretty promising solutions, if a bit immature. Is your company using virtualization in its data centers?
