Yao Ming Scores Big for the Green Team
Yao Ming may not be an Olympic Champion this year - his team lost big to the United States on the first day of group play - but according to the United Nations, he's an Environmental Champion. It marks the first time that the UN has bestowed this particular title on an individual.
The UN named Yao an Environmental Champion for the efforts he has made to promote sustainability education, and his ability to be an ambassador to nations around the world. Yao has pledged to "work with governments, the private sector and The topics that he places emphasis on are the use and development of public transportation, the construction of clean and effective waste management systems, and the continued development of greener forms of energy.

I think this is a great way for people to become informed and encouraged about the energy crisis at the same time. When I talk to some people, it seems that they don't even realize or understand what a bad place the entire world is in. I know one of the best ways to try to "be greener" is to spread the word, but it always disheartens me when I talk to someone about it, and he or she doesn't want to hear it. I hope this will open more people's eyes, while showing them that -- sorry for the cliche :) -- it can be easy, being green.
