Another state is finally topping California in the environmentally friendly department. Oregon is has begun construction on the nations first U.S. Solar Highway.

The project is the result of Portland General Electric, US Bank, and the Oregon Department of Transportation working together. The materials and installation will all be provided by Oregon companies.

Britain to Phase Out Incandescents

The British Government plans to carry out a bright idea of the next two years. To phase out traditional light bulbs.

They hope to stop selling 100 watt bulbs by January 2009, and 40 watt bulbs by 2010.

Tony Blair signed up to EU plans
that signaled death across Europe for traditional style bulbs earlier this year.

Britain hopes to phase out the traditional bulb in favor of CFLs as quickly and as smoothly as possible.

New Green Law in Hawaii

The rest of the US should be following in Hawaii's foot steps. Why you ask? They have just put into effect a new law that will prohibit building permits for single family homes that do not have solar water heaters.

All new homes are going to require energy efficient systems starting in 2010. (Exceptions include large forested areas.)

Of course, people argue that this drives the cost of these newly built homes to increase.

1.) What are your needs?-
Most people buy cars because of certain makes, models, looks, or features, that is all fine and dandy but when buying a fuel efficient car you need to think of the driving aspect before any others. What will you be using the car for? Commuting to and from work? As a second car when making errands or long trips? How many people will you need to seat? These are questions you must address before you begin researching cars.

Green Fiji?

Apparently, Fiji bottled water according to their website is carbon negative. Somehow I find this hard to believe, I mean they have to bottle the water in Fiji (which we shouldn't be taking their small amount of water in the first place), then package it in plastic bottles (at least they are trying to use less plastic and they are recyclable), ship it over to the US (wasting fuel) then send it out to warehouses and stores across the nation (wasting even more fuel and increasing green gas house emissions).

Air Conditioner Tips

Air conditioners not only waste lots of energy but they also release refrigerant chemicals that can destroy the ozone layer.

Fans are a good alternative and circulate air well but if the air isn't cool then its no where near as nice as an air conditioner. In addition, a fan that is plugged in and running all day wastes electricity as well, but not nearly as much as an air conditioner. Fans are good on mild summer days. If you is a fan instead of an air conditioner, you might save 60% or more in energy.
