Liv Greene's blogThe Clock is Ticking! Vote Earth!
Greenopolis Supports Earth Hour! The Clock is Ticking! Vote Earth! Next Saturday evening, at 8:30 pm wherever you are in the world, you can vote for the Earth by switching off your lights for one hour (and switching off anything else that uses electricity too!) Or you can vote FOR Global Warming by leaving everything on! The results of this “election” will be presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. We are shooting for one billion votes for the earth! Sustainable Brands!
I'm here with some of the GreenOps team at Sustainable Brands '09 in Monterey, California . What a great show! Many household names are here like SC Johnson, Yahoo, eBay, Ben and Jerry's, Frito Lay, and some of Greenopolis' innovative partners like Interface, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Native Energy, Cabot Cheese, CSR Wire, Net Impact, MIT Sloan, and MBDC. 10 ways to stop Global Warming and Save
Waste to Resources, Not Resources to Waste! We keep hearing about climate change and global warming as something that will happen in the future if we don’t act. But in reality, it is happening today, and affecting millions. A new report out from the global Humanitarian Forum, headed by former UN Secretary Kofi Annan, tells the story of the over 300 million people who are already being affected by the impact of climate change. People in sea level communities and in arid areas are being displaced by rising seas and crop failures. 300,000 deaths yearly are attributed to climate change. Greenopolis Partners support Nathan!

One Drop in the Bucket!
ONE DROP marks World Water Day on Digg ONE DROP is an NGO launched by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté to realize his dream of fighting poverty by providing access to clean water to the world's population. Vertical Farming
Aiming to solve the problem of slash and burn farming as well as prevent watershed contamination by pesticides, the Vertical Farm Project consists of skyscrapers designed to condense the whole farming operation into a sealed environment. http://www.verticalfarm.com/index.html We all know how important it is to maintain our environment for future generations, but who would have thought that the food we produce is literally digging us deeper into trouble very day? Indoor farming is nothing new. We’ve been using greenhouse technology for some time now. Renting The Sun?
There’s an old saying that goes, “Why buy the cow when the milk is free?” I’d like to turn that around and ask, “Why buy old sunlight, when you can rent the sun?” As Smart as Dirt: Waste=Food
At first it sounds yucky- waste as food? But when I throw my compost “away” in the compost bin- it doesn’t go away, but turns into nutritious dirt over time. Makes me wonder: Can we be as smart as dirt? Many sustainability gurus like Janine Benyus, Bill McDonough, Paul Hawken and Amory Lovins tell us that we should take a lesson from nature- 3.5 billion years of successful projects- and make sure ALL of our waste ends up as food. How small can you live?
People sometimes talk about “living large” and we Americans sure know how to do it- in our cars, our homes and our lifestyles. The average home size keeps expanding, and Americans use the lion’s share of the world’s resources. It’s been said that for everyone on earth to live the way we do, it would take 3 planets to sustain! Fortunately, we are also excellent innovators, and by increasing our efficiency dramatically we can live well on a lot less. What will you do this year?
OK guys, welcome back to the regular, post holiday world! Next year at this time, what will you have done differently in your life to green your home, your community, our planet? I’ve made the commitment to install a solar hot water system on my house, for both my domestic hot water and my heating system. Return unwanted holiday stuff at Free'N!
How many Christmas ties, new toaster ovens and Hanuka chochkes did you wind up with this year? Or have you got something that you’re replacing but still has some life left? Peace on Earth
