Did you know that this week (October 4-10) is World Animal Week (it's also referred to as World Wildlife Week in some places). I came across a story this morning that I thought would be perfect to put in my blog, especially during World Animal Week. You may find this hard to believe (I sure did!), but a recent international study claims that a quarter of the world's mammals are in danger of extinction. In case you weren't aware, September 28th (this Sunday) is Green Consumer Day, a great day to think about your choices as a consumer and consider how they could be greener. The best way to be a green consumer is not to be a consumer at all. It is easy to get excited about all the new green gadgets and organic products out there. These products may be green, but they will never be as green as the product that isn't made at all, and this is an important thing to keep in mind. The greenest path is to make do with what you have. » read more Six Tips to Save on Home Heating Costs Submitted by Liv Greene on Wed, 09/24/2008 - 10:54am.
As temperatures start to fall in the cooler parts of the country, some of us are starting to think (panic) about high home heating costs. I wanted to share some strategies with you for lowering those home heating bills to save you money and help the environment as well. Try some of them out, and let us know if you see a difference in your home! 1. Insulate. Unless your house is the tightest, most efficient home on the block (if it is, you probably don't these tips), chances are your home loses a lot of heat through your attic (hot air rises, remember?). » read more Finally Some Good News Submitted by Liv Greene on Mon, 09/22/2008 - 3:25pm.
This just in: Things may be a little bit better than we feared. Canadian researchers recently found that permafrost (a constantly frozen layer of soil found in colder areas) may not melt as easily as people first thought. Scientists were very concerned, because permafrost holds a high amount of carbon (twice the concentration of the atmosphere). » read more House Debates Allowing Offshore Drilling Submitted by Liv Greene on Tue, 09/16/2008 - 11:41am.
Right now, the House of Representatives is debating whether or not the ban should be lifted on offshore drilling. They plan to vote on this issue later today (Tuesday). If the ban is lifted, states would be given the option of allowing drilling between 50 and 100 miles from shore, and outside of 100 miles, everything will be fair game. As gas prices have risen over the past few years, more and more people have been calling for offshore drilling. » read more West Coast Green Blogging Contest Submitted by Liv Greene on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 9:33am.
