Be A Green Consumer

In case you weren't aware, September 28th (this Sunday) is Green Consumer Day, a great day to think about your choices as a consumer and consider how they could be greener. The best way to be a green consumer is not to be a consumer at all. It is easy to get excited about all the new green gadgets and organic products out there. These products may be green, but they will never be as green as the product that isn't made at all, and this is an important thing to keep in mind. The greenest path is to make do with what you have. If you do need something, consider buying used. Giving a product a second life is always a green way to go. When you buy something used, it prevents a new version of it from being made, and a perfectly good one from being wasted. If you simply must buy something new, then by all means, look for green or organic products. Develop a sharp eye for distinguishing legitimately green products from products that are simply "greenwashed." So there you go - some quick tips to help you be a green consumer of Green Consumer Day. (2 votes) »

Wonderful Tip!
Thanks for sharing that thought. It is so true. I have tried to purchase less and purchase used.
Prisoners.
It's amazing how we become prisoners of our possessions. Oh, how I wish I had less "stuff".
So true, that the "greenest product" is the one that is not made! We often think of the resultant "green" savings of the product we just bought, but what of the energy that was used to bring raw materials to the factory, manufacture, and transport the new products?
One of the greatest examples is the ecological savings of purchasing a used rather than new car. That purchase alone lessens the demand for thousands of components that need to come from all over the world in order to build that big machine.
