Lights Off

While it may not be welcoming, I was pleased to see the lights off in my Mendocino hotel room upon arrival.  Owner and Innkeeper Elaine Wing Hillesland showed me to the Pacific Suite at Alegria Oceanfront Inn and Cottages, gave me a brief tour of the property and handed over the key to my 24 hour paradise.

According to Darren Cronian over at Travel Rants the travel industry does not care about climate change.  Now I realize that airplanes leave carbon footprints, car exhaust fouls the air, and cruise ships are not always polite in minding their garbage recycling manners, yet I beg to differ with Darren.

As my neighbor pulled up to the Safeway parking lot in her BMW convertible, she scoffed at me while I schlepped over to the recycling center; plastic bags in tow, dripping trails of soda and dripping my own sweat from the heat.

What had I gotten myself into?  I'm a semi-green, cotton grocery bag toting, suburban mom.
