Another Health Site!

Here is an online alternative health forum, where you can discuss and educate others on alternative forms of medicine. It's also open for other health related discussions!

I've said this before, but I feel that alternative forms of healing help people connect with nature, and realize their dependancy on it. It makes the earth seem so much more important.

The Ethics of Climate Change and a GBC

A great read, The Ethics of Climate Change, by James Garvey. It's an environmental philosophy book about the ethical and moral dilemma of global warming.

Which brings me to my next really not-so innovative idea. I'm going to start a Green Book Club here at UNT. I'm hoping to get together with the school library and making sure they have a section dedicated to educating the community on climate change and how to go green in their every day lives. I encourage everyone to do the same.

Recycling electronics for cash!

The Lazy Environmentalist is possibly one of the most useful newsletters that come through my inbox every day or so. There's no fancy pictures, no complicated links, or videos, just a few paragraphs about what I can do to save the planet, and save money, while still being able keep up with my busy lifestyle. Working in a brand new administrative office for a major university going green, and being incharge of telling the world about it and making it happen, is tough and time consuming.

Really cool Health Blog

So I was wandering around the internet and discovered a pretty cool Health Blog called Healthy Fellow: Your Natural Health Critic. For those of you who are like me and have a good interst in alternative medicine, this is a very useful blog to read. I also like the way it is designed, with a sense of balance and purpose. Check it out and see if it works for you:

UNT One Book, One Community BIG COAL

So the University of North Texas has this program called the One Book, One Community. Every year, every incoming freshman receive a copy of a book in which an event or series thereof are held to educate on the topics discussed in the book of choice. (A special commitee chooses the book every year, and they must really love my office). This year the weapon of choice is Big Coal by Jeff Goodell. Very good read, and he's even coming by to talk to students and we'll all be one big happy family. Oh yeah we've also invited the coal company reps to say their piece too. It's only fair.

ZipCars

I was in California this summer on a road trip, and I had my first run in with ZipCars in the very hippie city of San Fransisco. They came in all shapes and colors, and were settled in parking lots that already exsisted all over town, so there is no rebuilding of infrastructure needed in downtown or even rural areas. This phenomonal community communal system is supposed to be cheap and efficient, but I think its just downright cool. Now only if all the cars were electric ones. THAT, my friends would be the icing on a very cool cake.

So I have recently discovered a new way to easliy make money from home (which as you all know means no driving, carpooling, and wasting gas). It's not something that you can easily make TONS of money doing, but if you're a stay at home mom, student wanting to make extra cash while doing not a hwole lot on the internet, than this is the job for YOU.

Mechanical Turking. go to www.mturk.com and find out all the good details on Artificial Artifical Intelegence. and yes, I meant to type that twice. If you already know about this, forget this blog was ever written.

E-Books are for losers.

Ok, so I was thinking I would do some reading this summer. According to me University Library, People who read are:

13% less likely to live with their parents

28% more satisfied with their lives (how do you get a statistic like this?)

13% less likely to live alone

25% more likely to aim high in their goals

So what better way to read than to read sustainably? So I thought I would look into audio and e-books, since I'm so busy and all. but NOOOOO. They'er just as expensive as real books, and most of them require a kindle.

Nifty water trick!

Hey just a nifty trick to save water:

You may have heard of this already, but fill a two liter bottle with water and place it in the tank behind your toilet. It'll displace two liters of water every time you flush. An older toilet can use any where from 5 to 7 gallons of water for every flush, and newer ones may only use 1 gallon, but you can save up to 168 liters of water a month!!! (Assuming you flush about three times a day) maybe even more. And it puts a plastic bottle that would have taken up landfill space to good use right?
