ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 21 Pakistan has said it will spend $7.3 million to research and promote renewable energy in the country.

The money will be spent to develop solar, wind, micro-hydroelectric and biogas in three years, starting later this year, the Ministry of Science and Technology said Monday.

The official Associated Press of Pakistan reported that the country had developed technology in solar cells and module-fabrication, adding it was also experienced in working with micro-hydroelectric, solar, biogas and wind systems.

The agency quoted a ministry official as saying some villages, schools and mosques had been powered using photovoltaics, wind and micro-hydroelectric technology.
