In its campaign against unauthorised use of polythene bags in the city, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) magistrates raided a polythene manufacturing unit preparing plastic bags of less than 300 microns and sealed the premises. Some 17 persons, mainly shopkeepers, were also arrested by the CDGK officials from various areas of the city, including Liaquatabad, Malir, Saddar and Nazimabad and sent to jail for using polythene bags of less than 300 microns. The CDGK has directed all traders, shopkeepers, and trading bodies to avoid producing and using polythene bags of banned specifications or strict action would be initiated against him including imposition of six months’ imprisonment and fine.On the other hand, the Sindh Home Department has directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) to take action against all those violating the concerned law.
