Making your own green cleaning products is super simple! Not to mention cheaper, better for the environment, and safer for use around children. There simple to make because all the cleaners you can make consist of a list of basic ingredients that most people have in their kitchen cabinets. If
not then you can easily pick them up at the supermarket or drugstore. You can
make everything from multipurpose cleaner to laundry detergent.
Here is the list of ingredients:
Baking Soda –
Commonly used for baking but it has many uses and is an all-purpose cleaner that
is non-toxic. It not only cleans but also deodorizes and removes stains and
even softens fabrics.
Cornstarch – Not
only is it good for thickening sauces, but also it also absorbs oil and grease.
Lemon Juice – I
prefer some lemon juice in my chicken soup to give it zest but it also cuts
through grease, removes perspiration stains as well as other stains from
clothing. It can also be used as a bleach alternative.
Salt – Not only
good on French fries but can be added to cleaners that need an abrasive
quality.
Toothpaste – Not only
cleans teeth but is also a good mild abrasive.
White Vinegar – Commonly mixed with oil as a
base for most dressings, but is also a great multipurpose cleaner. It cuts
grease, removes stains, is great on glass, and also great at softening water.
Isopropyl Alcohol
– Great to use as a disinfectant when added to water, but use sparingly around
children.
Washing Soda –
Cuts grease, softens water, removes stains, and disinfects.
Borax – This natural
mineral is safe for adults and better for the environment but it can be toxic
to children and pets. It is a great alternative to bleach, deodorizes, removes
stains, and enhances the cleaning power of soaps and detergents.
Soap – Unscented in
the form of liquids, flakes, powders, or bars is biodegradable and will clean
everything! Good soaps to use are vegetable oil based soaps (known as Castile).
Herbs & Natural
Oils – Can be found in the supermarket or natural food stores, and is good
for sanitization and fragrance also good for making your own potpourri.
