Green Code & Cheaper Green Homes

The state of California adopted a green building code. The rest of the states should follow suit.

The new standards will call for a 20% improvement in water use
efficiency for both residential and commercial plumbing fixtures as
well as target a 50% increase in conservation for water used in
landscaping.

The new code will also require all new construction to reduce energy consumption by 15%.

Now, all you have to consider is the cost. Generally, building green costs more, but Green Builders Inc, says they can build green for about the same price.

Rick Hunter of the St. Louis green building firm Sage Homebuilders agrees: "With proper planning and a little experience, building green,
even certified green, can be done for about the same cost. We are
building certified green homes at the highest levels of certification
for less than 1% cost increase."

I am not sure exactly as to how they do this because green products do generally cost more, but if they can do it more power to them. They should spread their wealth knowledge and consumerism.

In addition, it would be cheaper in the end to run a green home than non-green home, so a little bit of a cost increase would be worth it overall.

Now this knowledge has to be wide spread! And more states need to have green codes, even if they are not the same as California's. Every little bit helps.

maybe other states should do some things, and not make it seem like Cali is the only state that cares
