Trust Provider Relationships 5/15/2008

by Mary Anne Bowie, Sarasota Green Marketplace

This week I’m in Chicago at the Co-op America Green Business Conference. For 25 years Co-op America has been growing the green economy and as a Co-op America Business Member since 1994, I’ve been inspired to do the work that I do. And that work means helping to meet the needs of conscious consumers who are driving the green economy toward a world that is fiscally, socially and financially responsible.  You may not realize it, but it matters what you buy and where you shop.  With your dollars you support the good, the bad and the ugly. A cheap imported carpet may be gorgeous and an amazing deal, but if it was hand tied by small children forced to labor all day, then your buying it means you are okay with that practice. Buying green can be difficult because there is so much clutter out there:  so many products claiming to be green; so many different issues that no one can really understand them all. Conscious consumers make their choices easier by creating relationships with their trust providers. As a member of the Co-op America Business network, Sarasota Green Marketplace is a trust provider. We want to build a relationship with you.  We want to become your trust provider to make your buying choices fun, informed and responsible. We know that you care about your home, your health and our future here on earth. We care too so let’s do it together. I invite you to let Sarasota Green Marketplace and the Sarasota Green Connection Approved businesses become your trust providers.  We have already done the research to bring you products that are sweatshop free, fair trade, healthy, resource efficient and energy conservative. Let’s begin to get to know each other in June. You are invited to visit with us on June 5, 2008 at the Whole Foods Whole Lifestyle Classroom from 7 to 9 pm for our monthly Green World Cafe event when we have a presentation on the Slow Foods Movement in Sarasota and all day, on June 14, 2008 at the Healthy Living Celebration at Gold Tree Plaza, at the corner of Ringling and Tuttle. I hope you meet you personally.  I’m the one with the metallic haircut that is too short.  I used to call my hair silver, but my daughter’s hairdresser in South Carolina told me that metallic is in, so metallic it is.  She was a trust provider, but I didn’t really want my hair this short.  But maybe she does know best, I have to trust, but it can be difficult. Let me know if you think it looks okay, okay?Sarasota Green Marketplace is Sarasota’s Only All Green Home and Building Store, providing only eco-friendly products and services and promoting SGC Approved Businesses. Please visit us at 2864 Ringling Blvd. in the Gold Tree Plaza at the corner of Ringling Blvd. and Tuttle Ave.  Questions? Feel free to call us at 941.953.3588. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 6pm; and on Friday and Saturday from 8am to noon.  When You are ready to GO GREEN, we’re ready to help, Right Now.
