What "Think Green" Really Means To WM.

I'll give this one yet, another try. My last 3 attempts at this blog entry were deleted. Apparently by someone in the pocket of Waste Management. Someone whom does not want people here to know the truth. Why else would they delete it? There is nothing offensive here. No need for administrator censorship. Here's what the ever present company slogan of Waste Management really means. You know the almighty catch phrase. You've seen it boasted throughout this site. The same one borrowed from those million dollar energy sucking T.V. spots. Paid for in cash by super waste hauler, Waste Management. Can I get a drum roll please.............."THINK GREEN" Yes, "Think Green" indeed! Most would be surprised to find out that in reality this eco hype driven catch phrase actually has nothing to do with recycling or anything else of the sorts. What it really means is taken directly from a Waste Management publication. Now remember there is a difference between what they mean and what they want you to believe it means. If you are an employee of Waste management and are asked by a manager to spell "Think Green", you are expected to spell it as follows. "Think Green" 1. G= Great Operations 2. R= Respected Brand 3. E= Empowered Employees 4. E= Engaged Customers 5. N= Neighbors Spell it this way and you could be the winner of $50.00. It's about as green as it gets! They must be saving the sweet "think" acronym for later use. (4 votes) »

To chime in for a moment - while the revelation that WM may have an ulterior motive in making themselves appear much more "Green-friendly" than they are is interesting, I don't think it warrants the level of conspiracy theory that it seems you're really trying to impart. I worked in the environmental restoration program of Bechtel for a couple of years, and I don't think anyone has any illusions about the true motivations of these sorts of organizations - it's the bottom dollar.
What I fear you're not taking advantage of is the fact that, irrespective of ulterior motive, a community is being created here of like-minded people who have a curiosity, desire, profession, or motivation to do something about wastefulness in their lifestyle, inform others, share successes in improving their "green factor," discuss issues, etc.
So, I think much of what you're experiencing in the way of negative posts are simply people who (myself included) feel as though your repeated attempts to "blow the whistle" on Waste Management as a sponsor (or creator?) of this site are a little like another headline about Britney Spears going into rehab while more important stories go ignored.
Let's try and not get at each others' throats here and work on being parts of solutions.

I really do appreciate your imput Timesmith. I have read many of your post and you really seem like a very intelligent concerned individual. I am as well. You seem like an individual that tries to play the part of peacemaker.That's Great! Much repect! However, that being said. Being married to a woman who seems to thrive on the Britney Spears gossip. I suggest to you and anyone else here who feels as you, regarding my topics. Do as I do, with her (my wife's) gossip magazines and don't read'em. I don't forbid her from buying,reading or bringing such magazines into our home because I don't aggree with the content. Being part of a community does not require comforming to the general consensus of a few citizens.
P.S. With all do repect. May I refer to you in the future as Bill Nye?

Bill Nye is fine by me... lol. I certainly don't think discussion has to be comforting, and you'll see quite often I don't fall along "party lines." My only thoughts were that it seemed like you might be "missing the forest for the trees," as it were, by not seeing that regardless of who's behind it, this is shaping up to be a powerful forum for "green" ideas.
I was actually very intrigued by the potentially 'sneaky' WM tactic here. So, don't confuse by any stretch my comment to mean that I don't think you should be posting that sort of thing at all. I was just chiming in with my thoughts at the time. I think any forum without any dissent isn't really engaged in what they're talking about. (And I didn't even think your WM posts were a "dissent"!)

You keep whining
about Waste Management, but never say a thing about trying to make a difference. There's a pattern in most of your posts of just throwing stones, and I know several people on this site- none of them in the pocket of Waste Management, who simply find your whining and griping annoying. Why don't you put your energy into making a positive difference somewhere- it'll be better spent than throwing stones at some corporation. What's the matter, does Waste Management remind you of your abusive parent or an ex wife or something? Get over it and get on with your life.

And every once in a while get a little irritated- I apologize for snapping at you in my earlier post. But I'm prone to look for action, not complaint. How's you're progress toward an online WM Monday going? I'd be glad to support that with folks I know at WM.

Trust me, I have been attemping action and answers for years. As I still do. I am very active pertaining to these matters within my division. Lower managment does not make a move without being told to by middle management and so forth. Hence, not much gets done in matters of greeness. Not when there is a business to run. Sad, but data. As far as WM monday goes. I sent an email some time ago to company feedback link. No reply,yet.

Without you snapping at me could you tell me exactly what's the point of the whole THINK GREEn post? I do get what it's about but how does that benefit society? What reaction were you expecting when you posted this? do you have any useful WM facts?

From the home page of Greenopolis (learn,act,reward) simple as that. Nobody said you had to agree with or enjoy the lesson. I'm the teacher of this class. I act by posting the truth. I am rewarded by the number of hits I receive on my blog. As far as WM facts go, everything I have posted is a "useful fact" in my opinion. Would you rather see lies posted. Of how when I dump my WM truck nothing comes out of it but honey and sunshine. As far as benefiting society. I'm just trying to open a few eyes to the fact that these large waste companies are feeding the public a line of bull. Thanks!
Assessment, not fact.
Pardon me, but "feeding the public a line of bull" is an assessment, not a fact. Facts are hard observation based, replicable date- 32 degrees, 6 apples, 385 ppm of CO2, etc. XYZ corp has 12 trucks that currently leak oil, etc is data. Opinions based on data are assessments- they vary from person to person and depend on scope and point of view..

There is rain in the local forecast tommorow. I'll get up a nice snapshot if you like. One of the pretty rainbow going down the stormdrain located 6' away from the company fuel pumps.
This drain leads directly to the main local watershed. Don't get mad when you see the green trucks in the background though. You can call it what you want. And I'll keep posting my assessments and data then. Let me know if you want some snapshots up of the recycle materials before or after they go into the solidification pit. Nice to see you're still reading.
