A couple of years ago, there was a small movement to sever the legs of
those who wore their pants tucked into their boots. Not literally, but
even Facebook groups were created in revolt.
Well, I am one of those people who like to tuck my pants into my boots. So take that.
I
love boots. Some may say then that I am lucky that I get to live in
Michigan--a state that warrants wearing boots almost all year round.
Sigh.
I have a nice boot collection. From low boots to high
boots. Light brown, dark brown, medium brown, brownish red, blackish
brown. Etc. Etc. I apologize to the environment, but I can't afford to
give them up. So I did some searching online and--lo and behold--there
are several companies that make eco-friendly boots. But cute
eco-friendly boots? Enter Simple Shoes.
So I contacted Simple, and they sent me a free pair of their toetally-Wool felt boots in heather grey AND a pair of house slippers. I am blessed--this I know. So I've been wearing my booties for a couple of weeks now.
Here is why my pair of Simple boots are indeed eco-friendly:
- Crepe Rubber: The
midsole and wedge are made out of crepe rubber (had no idea what this
meant, so I looked it up--but it's natural rubber that comes from the
hevea tree originally de Brasil)
- Bamboo: The
inside is bamboo lined (cool! which is a great abundant all natural
resource--I have socks made out of bamboo and surprisingly it's super
soft)
- H20 Glue: The boot is held together with a water based glue
- Wooly: The boot uses organic cotton and wool on the outside--both earth friendly materials
- Jute Laces:
This [apparently] means that the laces came from a shrub and are 100%
biodegradable--these look super cute, but are kind of annoying. I like
to just slip my boots on.
Simple,
also, has a couple other pairs of boots, my personal favorite being
these (which have soles made out of recycled tires and buttons made
from coconuts):
So
I really like my new boots. The bottoms are squishy and I like that
they feel snug around my legs. The only complaint I have...well
actually one of my co-workers had, was that the boots filled the office
with a weird rubbery aroma.
Only one question remains...will these boots survive the brutal winter of Michigan? Only time will tell.
As for the slippers...well
I thought I'd spread the love around a bit, and I gave them to my
beautiful mother. They were perfect for her because she loves wearing
clogs. You see, she is a knitter...and her specialty is socks. So with
the house slippers she could show off her gorgeous work. The slippers
are made out of wool felt, water based glue and crepe rubber. Check 'em
out below. Yes, I know, her socks are stunning and no, she doesn't sell
them.
So here's what my mother had to say about them:
- Ooh they are very cushy
- I love the arch support
- The cutouts are sophisticated, while the color combination of chocolate and turquoise is well-balanced
- I only wish they had a sturdier sole so I could also wear them outside!
So thank you Simple Shoes for giving me the eco-friendliest booties I've ever owned (and adding grey boots in to my wardrobe).
