Volt, Shmolt...
But the other 7/8? That's going to the Aptera, baby! I uber-love this beast. The sleek, Jetson-like two plus one-seater is currently available in California with plans to expand! (Hooray - my Yankee self can have one soon! Well, that is if I get promoted a few times and suddenly have a bigger paycheck...) Want some specs? Check these out:
-0-60 in under 10 seconds, top speed of 85 -Available in "All Electric" or "Electric Plug-in Hybrid" -Able to go 120 miles on just electricity! (Three times further than el-Volt-o) -Production beginning in late 2008 (THAT'S NOW! SWEET!) -The approximate price for the all electric version is $27,000 and the plug-in hybrid $30,000. (Way, way cheaper than el-Volt-o.) Pretty sweet ride as far as I'm concerned. What do you guys think about this swanky electric vehicle? Let us know! -Gingerly

Sorry to burst the bubble here, but Aptera is founded by Steve Fambro, the same guy who's conned a lot of people out of a lot of money way back when the ZapCar had a future. Wired did a great expose here:

It would be a great car - but my money's on it never seeing the light of day.
This is a very interesting article. Thanks for sharing it.
It's always good to be cautious, but I still have hope that the Aptera will come through.
At some point Detroit is going to have to get a clue. Cars that have waiting lists versus 18-32% losses. If we--taxpayers--are going to be forced to bail out the big boys, we should demand something for our money and that something should be a change in products or the money should not be offered. These manufacturers need to get with the times and anticipate the future needs rather than the flatfooted management that we are currently seeing. If we don't then, our money should be invested in automakers with growth potential not ones who are whining about drops in SUV sales. We want our workers to have jobs, but we should not care which brand employs them. Where is the free enterprise in that?
Bob Ferris
An excellent response, Bob. Perhaps it might serve our top automakers well to start listening to the people more - clearly their approximately 30% sales decline this month didn't ring the message home enough...
But I live in Massachusetts- so i may have to pine for awhile until they get the distribution sorted out.....Each of us can make a difference. Together we make THE difference!
Well, at least we can all be one big, semi-happy pining family in our waiting. :)
