I think going green is so important so I love this site, but i can't figure out the whole points system. Can someone please explain it to me?

Hey there,
I'm new tonight as well, but I seem to have some insight about the points system.
For doing various activities on the site like updating your blog or commenting on a forum or something like that, you recieve a designated point value. The points are kept track of to somewhat rank members and to see who is active on the site.
