I remember what folks say about the first three rules of real estate: location, location, and location. Now, you may be reading it here first. The first three rules about energy: prices, prices, and prices. We will respond to solving our energy concerns when prices become too high for sustainable economic growth. There is little that energy prices do not impact. Note the rise in food prices linked to transportation cost, the rise in airline fares linked to transportation costs (and mismanagement), and the rise in electricity prices linked to generation costs. Recently, congress had an opportunity to address our concerns and deliver incentives to encourage the growth of renewable and alternative energy production, clean technologies, and reduce green house gas emissions. Congress did not do so. I believe that we generally get congressional consensus when there is a crisis. At some point, soon, we need to stop saying we have energy concerns, and start saying we have an energy crisis. Then, we will have consensus, action, and sustainable energy and economic development. It's important to highlight that investors have noticed the crisis. Domestic and international investment in alternative energy supplies and technology is up on a worldwide basis, and a new energy market is developing with an estimated worth of $45 trillion by 2030.
