US Carbon Market Design
The US is moving towards a mandatory carbon reduction market that could potentially be linked with the EU. Both US presidential candidates view carbon markets as an effective tool to reduce greenhouse gases in industrialized economies. However, it will be important to verify and track carbon reductions so the results are real and not a mere trading of offsets that lack transactional veracity. Any US legislation must include market oversight, rather than leave it to voluntary policing which will find ways to manipulate the management of pollution allowances. Vincent DeVito
