Grammy Weekend Round I

And so it goes.  After a nice leisurely drive on a rainy day in Southern California, I arrive at the Los Angeles Convention Center around 12:30pm--an hour early of my schedule.  Perfect.  This is where my heart begins to pitter-pat a bit faster.  I find my way to the credentialing office and register.  With a half-hour to kill, I decided to take a walk around to purvey the scene.

Of course, the first thing my eyes fixate on is the massive red carpet being set up for tonight's tribute to Neil Diamond.  I notice that there are heart logos on the carpet itself, which I later found out was the symbol of one of the Grammy's subsidiaries: Musicares.  This is a foundation who takes artists who have problems with substance abuse, and attempt to rehabilitate them (too bad Steven Adler wouldn't be a great candidate--my bad, Soberhouse in on TV).

Anyway, on my way back to the credentialing office, I notice that the tour is about to get underway.  Guided by the wonderful Beverly Jackson, the entourage conisted of participants from USA Today and us from Waste Management.  We were allowed to take a peek at the set-up for the after party (which I cannot wait to attend)...and guided through the Convention Center to the Staple's Center, by way of red carpet.  It was during this when Beverly pointed out the numerous--and I mean numerous--recycle receptacles strategically placed around the Convention Center.  Green anybody?

As I was informed prior, the Grammy's are really taking a step forward toward the eco-friendly this year.  Now, I see it with my own eyes.  Within the Staple's Center, there are just as many...plus with the solar panels being the source of the energy for the event...it looks like things are in the right spot.

Being so conscientious toward this is easy for some and a little more difficult for others, but when you consider the usual turnout that the Grammy's carry, it is only obvious common sense why they chose to run in our direction.  This weekend thousands upon thousands of people will be recycling...celebrities and fans alike.

This is going to be intense!  Follow along, because you know I'll keep you posted!  More to follow.  Holler!

Noel
