Chicago Auto Show

I attended the Chicago Auto Show today, not that I'm a big fan of sporty, shiny, gas-guzzling vehicle...I was looking at all the new versions of hybrids out there. So far, I still think the Toyota Prius is by far the best hybrid with the best deal, but there are still a number of up and coming hybrids that look reliable. Volvo is creating a complete plug-in that has a real sporty exterior, the Honda Civic now comes in a natural gas model (not that I think it's the cleanest version, just cleaner than petroleum, and of course for those who just NEED an SUV, the Ford Escape hybrid is wonderful! Chevy is also coming out with their line of fuel efficient vehicles too. The Equinox will be available in a fuel cell model, and the Malibu and Tahoe hybrids too. Just some ideas to look into if you're interested in a hybrid...oh and just as a side note, I made the comment about the luxury hybrids, definitely NOT worth it. The Lexus Hybrid starts at $104,000 and only gets 20 mpg city...what's the point...you're better off getting the actual model.

There were a number of fuel-efficient vehicles for those of us who can't afford a hybrid yet or are not near dealers that can provide the hybrid models...the Ford Focus gets good gas mileage, forgot how much but I believe it's in the mid-30's for city. The Toyota Corolla, Mini Cooper, and Ford Focus all have decent highway mileage, averaging in the mid-30's and mid to upper 20's. So, if you tend to travel longer distances, these might be some better options for you to look into.
