Solartaxi in Brattleboro, VT
Description:
A stop on the first ever world tour of a vehicle powered entirely by solar engery!
The Marlboro College MBA inManaging for Sustainability will host a stop by the Solartaxi at the Marlboro College Graduate Center, Wednesday, September 17 at 8:00 a.m. This will be the second to last stop in the United States for Swiss adventurer and solar pioneer, Louis Palmer, and his crew. People will have the chance to see the solar taxi vehicle up close in the graduate center parking lot, located at 28 Vernon Street in Brattleboro, Palmer will also give a presentation inside the graduate center showing that solutions to combat global warming are available and that we can be independent from fossil resources. “I have not paid a single cent for gasoline after driving two thirds around the world so far!” says Palmer. The event is free and open to the public with a light breakfast served. Science classes from area schools are encouraged to send students. Contact Marlboro MBA program development coordinator Katie Wilson at 802-451-7544 or kjwilson@marlboro.edu for more information or to make arrangements. Palmer’s ambitious plan to travel around the world in a solar-powered vehicle began in his home town of Lucerne, Switzerland on July 3, 2007. Since that time, he has been travelling through different countries, meeting new and interesting people and, some of the time, taking passengers with him. Daily reports of the trip can be followed through Palmer’s online diary at www.solartaxi.com. If everything works out, this project will set a world record as the first motor vehicle powered by solar energy to drive around the world.
