Should Television programs interfere...I dont normally watch TV, and I dont have cable. I dont really know what was going on entirely on the show Orangutan Island on Animal Planet. But I saw a preview for it while visiting with my boyfriend's family and it annoyed me. They made wildlife into daytime drama! Apparently one of the female orangutan's had a bad snake bite. The commercial asked "will she ever return to Orangutan Island?" I asked " you took her from her family? You took her from her home?" Its great and all if they can save her, but on the other hand, animals get bit by snakes in the wild all the time and there's nothing we can do about it. ITS NATURAL! Its been happening for thousands of generations of orangutan. If the female they were talking about doesnt survive the snake bite she'll die in some sort of scary hospital where everything is steril and there's no plant life to be seen. I dont know a whole lot about orangutans specifically, but I know they are apes, and as closely related to humans as they are, they are social creatures. If I was an orangutan dying of a snake bite, I'd want to be someplace familure, and be calm and relaxed and with the other orangutans. Not panicy in a place I've never been before. I dont know if she made it or not. This episode took place a couple weeks ago, and I didnt bother to watch. I was outside taking pictures anyway.
I just wondered if I'm the only one that thinks human involvment in the lives of animals should be kept to a minimum. I know they're endagered, but saving one orangutan from a snake bite that would have happend anyway isnt going to make enough difference. What they should be doing is cutting back on the tree cutting and re-cultivating the rain forrests. The orangutans can handle it from there.
