Genetically Altered Vegies?

With the Global Food Crisis causing many problems world wide, many have been pushing for more genetically altered vegetables. I just heard a story on the radio about how one third world country is embracing it, because the genetically altered corn does not get destroyed by the worms. They have altered the corn with a type of pesticide that kills the worms in this region, so the crops are much easier to grow, and produce more. I'm a little scared by the thought of genetic engineering, but if something is absolutely proven to be safe I may be convinced to embrace it.
