Green Festivals

Stolen idea from Chicago's green festival, I think it would be amazing to start something like that in other areas.

I'm from California so that's where I'd want to start.

I'd really love to get some bands that have been claiming to be environmental, like radiohead (:, and have a massive emphasis on recycle. Showcase designers that make their products in America and use natural and sustainable materials. Workshops on composting and setting up recycling systems in your home and our community could be good also.

I'd really like to do this, so pretty please if you have any interest, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Greenopolis Festival - love it!

Sounds great!
I love the "enviro-friendly" bands and "green products showcase" combo!
I don't have experience with planning anything that big, but I'd be up for chipping in ideas and helping out however I could!

Top 15 Green Bands/Musicians

Grist - http://www.grist.org/about/
another good site with lots of good reporting on environmental issues,
happens to have some Top 15 "Green" lists and here's what came up for bands/musicians -

http://grist.org/news/maindish/2007/06/22/musicians/

They also have similar list for actors/actresses; political leaders; cities; business leaders; sports stars; fashion finds; etc.

If you're up for attracting big crowds maybe big names like these will help...

How about a Greenopolis festival next summer?

Once we get this site launched and really up and out, how about a Greenopolis Festival? Conference for business leaders, activists, teachers and all the rest of us, from serious meetings to plain out fun musical romps. Saving the palnet- and our own hides- doesn't have to be dull!

Who's in?

Each of us can make a difference. Together we make THE difference!

Well I think that if

Well I think that if anything like this is possible it would be done here on greenopolis, and I was hoping that we'd be able to get support from our partners and sponsors, as well gain sponsorship from other groups. I think that would be the best to get the money for it. Though we need a lot of support if it can happen which means we'd have to wait until participation in the site increases. But the concern for the environment is a growing trend and people love music, so I don't see why this couldn't work.

That sounds like an awesome

That sounds like an awesome idea. I think it would probably take some time to be able to have a large festival with well-known bands, but you can start with small groups in your area. You can post to craigslist or maybe start a Google or Yahoo Group for your local area? You might be able to start a newsletter, or see if your local paper would let you post something about a meeting, and you can meet in a town hall or something like that.
