salt water toiletsive been thinking. We should use salt water toilets. NO one drinks out of them, except for dogs but they would stop. After all the STUFF gets out of the water it can go right back to the ocean. So we save our fresh water. I hope we think about this. It could actually work! That would save our fresh water. And anyway we have so much salt water. This is a great idea( I think) It is kinda cool to. Just think this might actually work! Cant you imagine it?!?! I hope there is a big discusion about it for a while.

Well, the treated water would have to have the salt taken out of it, too, b/c treated water goes back into our freshwater systems unless you live at a coast. So for me living inland it wouldn't make any sense to pump it inland, use it in the toilets, and treat it and take all the salt out in addition to the regular sewage. You couldn't use it in septic systems either b/c it would kill the beneficial bacteria in the holding tank and kill any vegetation in the septic fields. I do appreciate your desire to save drinking water, though, that's for sure! I think low flow toilets are a more feasable idea, or putting graywater into the tanks from showers, washing machines, etc, as long as it had something so the bacteria didn't grow. You can also save on flushes by not flushing when it's just pee. Composting toilets are another option. Anyway, I'm not sure it would work unless you were right by the coast and they didn't treat for the salt, but I definitely think putting perfectly good drinking water in toilets is something we should find a solution for.
