What is your favorite type of renewable energy source if you had to pick one?

Get off the grid
Different renewable energy types are, to use an architectural term, site specific. So it is not so much which renewable energy type is the best, but which is the best for where you live, for your community, and for you personally. Here is Vermont, solar is viable for some people, fairly popular, and commercially available. Microhydro would be a great option for a lot of people, but there are few companies that provide the set-up service. Wind is another good option, can be for personal or community use. If we are going to make in roads in renewable energies then we must start thinking outside the grid and ask what we can all do to create sustainable energy for our communities and for ourselves.

Combination of Nuclear/Hydro Electric
They produce such large amounts of energy and are relatively safe. There are only one or two incidents with nuclear ( 3 mile island). And that was because of negligence not by the standard idea.

Rory Short: All the above are naturally occurring forms of energy and therefore as such do not damage the environment in anyway at all. The only environmental damage that might arise from them would be caused by how we harness them or use them once harnessed so it is up to us.
Nuclear power is the best
Nuclear power is the best energy source (if managed properly), but sadly the media has frightened the public into believing every nuclear power plant is a ticking time bomb. Our society is against any alternative energy source (probably big oil's hold on our economy). If we, as a society, didn't waste so much energy we wouldn't be in the crisis we are in today.

Its true, nuclear is one of most efficient
Its true, nuclear is one of the most efficient ways and safe. People easily confuse nuclear weapons with nuclear energy or are scared after Three-Mile-Island.
I agree...somewhat.
Your statement regarding the usage of energy is 'spot on'. But for those of us that are old enough to remember 3 Mile Island, it's hard to catagorize that as a "media spin". There are pro's and con's to all forms of energy, and I feel as if in order to loosen the grip we have on oil, we must take note on which form of energy best suits the situation we're applying it to. Wind farms are great, when built in the right area; solar is equally friendly, but we must apply recycling to the equation when it comes time to dispose of the panels. Nuclear has it's safety concerns as well, but it's gain is tremendous, it's waste, unfortunately, is not biodegradable.
All in all, technology is advancing at a staggering rate, and with it are the safety nets that we rely on. There is no "one" answer to replace our dependency on oil. Personally, I feel as if it will take a little bit of everything to resolve that dependency, and even then there will be some applications where oil/gas will be the best choice. Besides, with you being located in Toledo, I would think that harnessing Landfill Gases would have to make the list, wouldn't you??

I think solar is really the best way to go, but there are many ways to get energy. If we could just increase the amount that we use all of them it would be great1
With solar power we have to
With solar power we have to worry about storage, and guess what, solar panels are made of very, very toxic materials (cadmium and others)

Solar
I love solar energy. I live in arizona with over 300 sunny days a year! It's free energy, yet the city council of my town is trying to outlaw solar and wind within city limits.
Solar water heaters are another great way to save energy.

Solar. As much as I love the idea of wind farms, especially in really windy places, they also pose a serious threat to migrating birds, several of which are threatened or endangered, as well as bats, also often threatened or endangered. I hate to see one environmental problem be solved by sacrificing another aspect of the environment...
I think depending on where
I think depending on where you call home your choice of renewable energy will be different. Yes Florida is very sunny so Solar makes total sense, and a wise one at that.
Wind?
Solars great and seems the most reliable but what about wind? Wind could also be just as reliable
Best renewable
Solar, hands down. I live in Florida where there are gated-communities everywhere. I can't understand why HOAs have not been sold on community-solar intiatives yet. Anyone interested in brainstorming about the figures, please let me know. I am dying to get some research done about this and consider an entrepreneurial venture to implement it.
