Does anybody know any websites where you can get volunteer and community service places or things like that. Where you can sign up to do those things. Anything is fine. You know, vets office, library, community ideas. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!

Volunteer Events on Greenopolis

Just keep swimming!

Hi Mabbles,

There is a place on Greenopolis where you can sign up to volunteer for events. http://greenopolis.com/node/5345 is an example of an event that needs volunteers. Not sure if that is anywhere near you but you might want to check it out. There are not a lot of events (volunteer or regular) on the site yet but that should be changing soon.

Volunteering Suggestions

Hi there!
I used to work at a YMCA here in Virginia...and I know for a fact that the need for local volunteers is immense! When I first started volunteering, I was a little sheepish, simply because I didn't know where to start. I actually made the decision to enroll in a "service learning" course at my highschool. My teacher showed our class how to go about volunteering in the right way---using our specific talents/likes to determine where we would be the most comfortable and useful. I would say a good way to start (if your school doesn't offer a class) is to make a simple resume expressing your passions for volunteerism and public service. If you need any help, feel free to message me! All of the other suggestions on this page are also great--go for it! We need more people like you!

Go to www.volunteermatch.org and there you'll be able to search for specific organizations you wish to help, either in your immediate area or virtually.

You can always check with your local Chamber of Commerce, or with your school counselor. One option that work really good is just to go to the places where you think you might like to volunteer. Want to work with animals? Visit you nearest Humane Society location, or check into any nearby 4-H offices. If you want to volunteer at the library, stop on by, and talk to them.

When I want to find a local place to volunteer, I Google things like Volunteer (city). For example I live about 15 - 20 minutes away from Roanoke, so i search "Volunteer Roanoke, Virginia". Sometimes you can get what you are searching for and sometimes you can't. If you need any help you can message me!
