4 Day Work Week

With gas prices on the up and up, national business are now switching to 4 day work weeks. Do you think there will ever be a time where Tele-Commuting and Phone Conferencing will be the way of business?

I think this is a great ideal for a lot of companies and I know of a few that are doing this now. It is a great way to save on gas. But, since I work for Waste Management, I don't see this happening here since we run our trucks 6 days a week and 1 truck we even run 7 days a week.

With all the technology and communications tools at our disposal, telecommuting seems like a smart alternative to commuting for hours each day, polluting the environment, and spending our hard earned money on gas as prices continue to rise. All for it!

In the past, we can all provide examples of big corporate waste, and the devistatingly negative impacts that some have had on our families and communities. With international trade on the rise and many smaller countries importing and exporting goods and services that were never in the market before, the world has become smaller than ever. Some remote areas that were never accessible before are now available through telecommunictions, reducing the need to "travel" the globe in search of expansion. But when it comes time to sign the bottom line, there is no replacement for a good 'ol handshake. People still prefer to look someone in the eyes before signing their 'John Hanncock'.

My neighbor works 10 hrs, M-Th and has Friday off every week. That would be nice :-)

I think that is quite plausible in the future, many companies already do it on a small basis. However, face to face communication really is important. The internet rules our lives now a days! children don't know how to interact with friends besides instant messaging and playing video games. In a world where physical human interaction is dwindling, I think this is a bad idea for us, but good in other areas.

  • Be prepared.

Put together a kit of reusable containers, flatware, a covered mug, and other essentials to keep in your car. Use these items for food take-out, doggie bags and coffee instead of using disposable items.
