CO2 & Alternative Energies

We would like this group to become a forum for a discussion focused on the reduction of carbon through the implementation of alternative energies. Recently there has been a lot of discussion about being "green," but we must insure we are able to address environmental concerns while providing the energy to sustain a society moving away from traditional energy sources.

Please use this group to post articles, surveys, studies, reports, charts, graphs or anything else which will help us gain additional insight into these issues. We will provide the facilitation of discussion by asking questions and doing our part in providing some interesting reading.

Important Article on Renewable Energy

I often like to lead to existing articles online, that don't need to be re-written by me, because they are well written and say something important.  This is one written by lead IPCC author Andrew Weaver, Scientist at the University of Victoria in British Columbia.  It covers important points and concerns about what we need to do to navigate a rapid shift to renewable energies.  I've read similiar articles on COP15's website and related conferences coverage articles, leading into the Climate Change Conference scheduled in Copenhagen this December 2009.  As urgently as the alarm has sounded

Carbon footprint of biofuels

A relatively new article on the carbon footprint of biofuels and the potential to offer not only reductions in harm but benefit for the environment:

Biochar

I would like to share a new report that has come across my desk. It is about the use of biochar to sequester carbon in soils. Biochar is produced through pyrolysis, which can provide sources of energy as well.
