If you build it they will come

Well somebody has to be first, so here I go.

This isn't going to cost you a dime. It's a forum to add your ideas. I want to know what you would put into YOUR plan for a NET ZERO home or commercial building. Totally free of dependancy on outside energy.

Windows and Doors. No more aluminum. It's the best conductor of heat.

Thanks for the opportunity, Tom

Greetings from Brodhead,

We are now an energystar.gov partner and focusonenergy.com ally here in Wisconsin. A solution for your conservation efforts and the path to incentive to do the right thing. Take a look at ICF and I think it is hard to make a case NOT to build this way. 50-70% HVAC energy use savings can be realized. A perfect partner for solar and geothermal.

Man-made tornadoes as power source?

A
Canadian engineer has a plan to extract
energy from a man-made tornado.  It all depends on heating the air near the surface so that it is much warmer than the air above.

Convective air currents are only useful if they can be
channeled in some way.

Virtualization

The hottest trend right now in green computing centers around virtualization.  For those not familiar with the topic, virtualization allows you to running multiple operating systems on a single piece of hardware.  The benefit to this is that you maximize resource utilization on a server while lowering power consumption and reducing cooling costs.

VMWare is perhaps the best-known vendor providing virtualization software.  However, Microsoft is in the game as well, and Xen, a new vendor on the scene, has some pretty promising solutions, if a bit immature.
