About our Organization

Northern Woodlands is the trade name of the Center for Northern Woodlands Education, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization with a mission to shape the future of the Northeast’s forests through education about their value, use, and conservation.

Our Sustainability Vision and Strategy

Our mission at Northern Woodlands is to encourage a culture of forest
stewardship in the Northeast by increasing understanding of and
appreciation for the natural wonders, economic productivity, and
ecological integrity of the region’s forests.

Examples of our Sustainability Initiatives

Northern Woodlands magazine - a quarterly magazine for landowners, forestry professionals, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Outdoor ClassroomNorthern Woodlands Goes to School - a place-based environmental education program for middle- and high-school students.

The Outside Story - a weekly column on forestry subjects, natural history, and ecology syndicated in dozens of newspapers. And now a book of the same name.

The Place You Call Home - a magazine-format owner’s manual geared to particular regions or states.

Northern Woodlands Guide to Stewardship - a three book series, currently in the works.
