It Depends on Several Factors
This is a tough question to answer if you don't specify the types of plastic, paper, cans, and batteries. For example, recycled paper with soy-based ink vs. glossy paper without recycled content. As mentioned, there are many types of batteries, some worse than others. Also, how you use them and dispose of them is a big factor. I'll have to go with batteries for now, but hopeful technological innovation will help us there, and our methods and practices for disposal will continue to improve.
Saltwater Batteries could be green-friendly
Some of the first batteries were made out of salt water. Why did we have to start using lead and sulfur and PCBs? Only due to the discharge factor, but if we had a large bath of saltwater acting as a battery, we could become more environmentally friendly.

That's a great idea, but i think that maybe they're less efficient in the fact that they don't work as well. People in the world aren't ready for a lot of the ideas we have here. Which is really to bad because we could be helping ourselves.
