Follow Nathan: Finally...I Can Update To The New Greenopolis!

follow nathan

The last time I updated my blog I was a few days ago in beautiful Thompson Falls, MT camping by the river and that honestly feels like weeks ago. I currently only have a few minutes of time as I am able to grab a cell signal but I am currently camping with no access to electricity in order to keep my laptop charged. Beyond that I have a group of deer that are feasting on plums about 10 feet from my tent and I certainly do not want to miss that!

I would like to first compliment my wonderful sponsor and difference maker http://www.Greenopolis.com for launching a new version of their website and bringing Eco minded readers a tremendous user experience and learning platform. It has been a pleasure working with them and without them this amazing journey I have shared with you all would not have been the same.

I am currently in Wilbur, WA (YES WASHINGTON!) and I have just completed what was hands down one of the most beautiful stretches on this trip thus far. For over 120 miles I biked the Coeur D'Alene River Road and then onto the Hiawatha Bike trail and into Coeur D'Alene where the Northwest gives you a sense of grand natural beauty.

After a few hours biking around Coeur D' Alene a local named Dave couldn't help but notice my bike and take a shine to my journey and he immediately offered me a place to stay and was more than willing to give me a tour of Coeur D' Alene. This was perfect for me because Coeur D' Alene has always been one of those towns in which I passed through but had always wanted to see in more depth and this was my chance.

On Sunday I scored big time when Dave's friend Josh offered to come over with his boat and head up to Carlin Bay for an awesome day on the lake. This was simply amazing and if you have never spent time in this region I highly recommend you do so. The Idaho panhandle is amazing! The scenery is spectacular, the air smells fantastic, the town is diverse with great dining options and culture, the people are environmentally concerned, relaxed and love the outdoors.

From Coeur D' Alene I took the centennial bike trail roughly 33 miles and headed into downtown Spokane WA. Needless to say that crossing into Washington and now only having one state left has truly heightened my excitement. I certainly would like to thank Pam Scott and VisitSpokane.com for arranging accommodations right in the heart of downtown and making sure Spokane treated me well. I had a only a brief stay in Spokane but I can certainly tell you that I plan to revisit that city and dig a bit deeper at another time.

This morning I left Spokane and enjoyed a wonderful 67 mile bike ride though endless fields of wheat. I am actually very surprised with both the amount of agriculture in Eastern Washington as well as the temperatures that vary from 37 to 92 in a single day. Who would have thought?

So there you have it! a quick update from the road before I face the very intimidating Cascade Mountain Range and the fickle weather of the Pacific Northwest. And fortunately or unfortunately this 4000 plus mile biking trek is coming to a close. I hope you all follow me along til the end.
