Repurposed wood from a demolished shed is now a family heirloom

I found this beautiful armoire at Lumberjocks, a site dedicated to woodworking. Ray McInnis constructed the piece from wood reclaimed when an old out-shed was demolished near his home in Olympia, Washington.

The lumber that was recovered was originally part of a storage area that had to be torn down, and McInnis used the existing 3/4" tongue and groove, lapped siding to build the armoire. He had a friend design the adapted William and Mary style armoire and then went to work cutting and reshaping the reclaimed Douglas Fir to fit the design. The rest of the wood was repurposed to build a new storage area nearby.

McInnis said the project was hard to complete because he was working at the time in a 900 sq-ft. basement and had little room to move around with the large piece. The armoire was originally built to hold a hi-fi stereo and LPs, since CDs hadn't been invented when the piece was constructed about 30 years.

McInnis has dedicated the beautiful furniture piece to the memory of his late father-in-law, who built the original storage shed.
