Recycled Wood Furniture: Turn Something Old into Something New!

Dutch artist Jo Meesters creates beautiful “Odds & Ends” furniture from recycled wood

When I was younger I tried many times to build a treehouse with old pieces of lumber and wooden beams that I found around the neighborhood or beside the road. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a treehouse somehow turned into a structure that looked like a dilapidated shack that was tornado-tossed into a tree (the total opposite of those in our Artistic and Eco-Friendly Treehouses post). All of those extra pieces of wood sadly lay strewn around the yard until my mom yelled at me to pick them up.

I never thought that those discarded pieces of wood from my numerous attempts to build a treehouse could one day turn into a fabulous piece of furniture. Well they can, according to Dutch artist Jo Meesters!

Focusing on the principles of sustainability and rejuvenation, Jo Meesters decided to create a series of furniture prototypes that reflected these ideas in both an artistic and eco-friendly way. The artist thus came up with his first collection of four recycled wood furniture pieces titled “Odds & Ends, Bits & Pieces.” Take a look:

The above pieces were made from 34 old wooden beams and 16 leftover blankets that were woven together. I kid you not. Don’t they look artsy and chic!

If you like these designs then you can check out Jo Meester’s website for other sustainable projects.

I bet Jo Meester could do something amazing with Snoopy’s dog house and Linus’ old blanket!
