Is This The Real Flintstones House?Although it appears to be built completely out of stone, it is actually a house nestled between two giant boulders. This fascinating Stone House, located in Nas Montanhas de Fafe in Portugal, looks like it would fit perfectly in the town of Bedrock, or maybe a Tim Burton film. Doesn’t it look like a house Wilma and Fred would have owned? But the Flintstones and the Rubbles were obviously very social people. They might have chosen a somewhat less desolate place to start their modern stone-age community.
Whether you think these photos remind you of the Flintstones or not, there is no denying that this unusual stone structure is something to see. And while some people have accused Jsome1, who posted these photos to Flickr, of creating a hoax for some mischievous reason of his own, the structure is real. A search of Google Maps proves the existence and location of the interesting structure, although there doesn’t seem to be anything more than local publicity about it. (I can’t imagine why. Seems like it’d draw the tourists in by the truckload.)
Not much has been published about the house itself. Although it appears to be built completely out of stone, it is actually a house nestled between two giant boulders. I can’t tell you who built it or why, or how long it took to complete. Seems to be livable enough, if you don’t mind being surrounded by cold stone and the apparent lack of cable TV. It has windows and a door and a tin roof that may be starting to rust, not unlike many other houses. I don’t really care all that much about the particulars of the house, even though I’m sure it’s an interesting story. What I do like are the unique and interesting pictures. So fun to look at.
