From the Fig Leaf to Fig Newton’s….Edible Clothing can grow on you!

A Full Course Edible Fashion statement from Greenopolis

EPA/NIKOS ARVANITIDIS
An edible creation made of chocolate and sweets shown during a fashion show by Greek chef Virginia Anastasiadou Levi to promote her new collection of chocolate and candies.

Figures of speech like “I’ll eat my shirt” or, “Eat my shorts!”  take on a totally new meaning when we talk about giving clothing new life as….food? Ok, compost more likely in many cases. Although I’ll eat anything my wife wears- honest, honey, and nobody else!

Once again, with no regard to cost or personal danger, we’ve done the research in clothing and grocery stores, thrift and truffle shops, fashion palaces and fast food joints, back alleys and bakeries and mainly on the web, and pulled together our Top Edible Fashion Statements in a prix fixe menu for your wearing and dining pleasure. We’ve considered fashion, taste, environmental impact and the fact that there’s not a lot out there, in our choices.

Appetizer
De Culinaire Werkplaats offers up these tasty accessories made from dried vegetables and fruits:

Line dry these, please- the electric dryer will destroy the flavor….

Salad
As part of an effort to get people to eat vegetables rather than animals, PETA made this political fashion statement. I suddenly crave greens!

Bread
French Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier turns bread into high fashion. You may have to butter yourself to get into some of these outfits. They look great with a little tapenade.

1st Entrée
Pasta blouse - all this needs is a nice marinara sauce. Wear it to work during the day, and then toss it into the pot in the evening! Or use as chain mail while fighting dragons. If you prefer, you may have the flower, seed and flour dress on the right from Beatrice Oettinger’s baked goods. Nice with a pesto spread.

2nd entrée
Mexican Fare - these are students in Mexico City creating and modeling a clothing line of edible textiles and fruit. Make sure you get 4 servings a day.

Edible Fashion Show - Funny bloopers R us Pineapples, beans and chillies were the main materials, along with salami, basil, coconuts and other other ingredients used to create 16 garments at a fashion show put on by culinary students at a Mexican university. Students wanted to show people that you can do much more with food than eating it.

Dessert
Too important to over look or rush through!  The Salon du Chocolat is a public and very popular fashion show in Paris. Here is their dessert menu:

I love chocolate with a surprise filling…

Seconds on dessert is always a good idea!

Pastry
And just in case you thought your generation invented edible clothing, it looks like Grandma and Great-Grandma were no no slouches either. Checkout this video of bonnets at Macy's : http://www.babelgum.com/109870/students-design-crazy-hats.html ...and the advertisement below. Let them eat cake, eh?

Appertif
Then after dinner, you may want to work it off in these Greenopolis Partner Nike , edible, high performance, athletic footwear!

And of course with Halloween around the corner, you’ll want to have some of these “after dinner mints” on hand for your favorite “trick”… or treater!

For the woman in your life….

…and for the man. Equal opportunity, in fruity flavors, and best of all the string doubles as dental floss! Another inspiring waste to resources story!
