How To Make Make A Christmas Ornament Using A CD

This is project I found on the Brazilian web site EcoDesenvolvimento. The instructions over there are in Portuguese though, so I decided to put them into English and give it go.

Summary:
A fun way to use old technology during the holiday season and personalize your tree. You can make various shapes and sizes. For the purpose of this demonstration, I made a star.

Tools and Materials Needed :

  • A CD
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Drill and 1/16" bit or a nail if the plastic is thin enough.
  • Thin string

Instructions on How To Make Make A Christmas Ornament Using A CD:

  • Draw your design with a permanent or dark marker on the face of the CD.
  • Use your scissor to cut along the outside lines. It'll take some force to cut the CD.
  • Optional: Use your scissor to scrape off the label of the CD. Then run it under water to remove the pieces. I skipped this step because it was too time consuming for me.
  • Spread glue on the face of the CD.
  • Cover it with glitter and let it sit until it dries.
  • Use your scissor, nail or drill bit to poke a hole through a tip of the CD.
  • Fish the string through the hole and string it up.

My Take on the Project
This is definitely a good project. I would definitely use glitter instead of the confetti glitter stuff that I had. Cutting the CD is the toughest part.

I don't have a Christmas tree, so not sure how it would hang on one, but you could always string 2-3 together and hang in a doorway as some holiday decor.
