4 Eco-Friendly Ways to Clean up Oil Spills!

Check out these 5 very different, but very green videos that show you how to clean up nasty oil spills!

Whenever spring comes around I’m always excited to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of nature. I especially love going to nearby lakes and beaches to see the different types of wildlife that “spring” out of their hiding spots. Unfortunately, some of the most water-friendly animals don’t always get a clean, natural spot to swim in. That’s because the water is filled with waste, and one of the worst and most toxic waste products in and around the water is oil.

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01We all know about the dreaded Exxon Valdez Oil Spill that occurred in 1989. It was one of the worst human-caused environmental disasters ever. There are still oil spills happening every day, whether it’s in nature or in the vicinity of our home.  So, how can we clean up this oil in a way that’s safe for both us and the environment?

Here are 5 eco-friendly oil absorbing options:

1. Terrenew Oil Master Oil Absorbent
Oil Master is 100% organic, biodegradable oil absorbent made from agricultural waste products.

2. Ecuadorian Oil-Eating Mushrooms
This story on oil-eating mushrooms was featured in Time Magazine. It shows how Ecuadorians are using mushrooms to clean up oil spills in nearby rainforests.

3. OttiMat - The Natural Oil Spill Solution
The OttiMat is a non-hazardous mat made from 99% recycled human hair and 1% Polypropylene Skrim.

4. NASA Wonder Powder - PRP (Petroleum Remediation Product)
The amazing, biodegradable PRP powder is made from beeswax and soy!

I feel much better knowing that these kind of eco-friendly products are out there to clean up nasty oil spills. I hope that we can continue to find safe, affordable ways to do this!

PPE?

The guy in the Oil Master ad made a major mistake by not wearing gloves in his demonstrations.  Hello!  Aren't we trying to sell a product that cleans up a material that can be harmful to human health?  Why would he rub it into his fingers???  If it's not harmful, why do we need to clean it up; why would anyone buy your product?  Oops.
