Now rainy days can be less gloomy and more fun! Cheer up with the Spud Raincoat. The waterproof coat is made from potato starch and other natural source bioplastics, and it’s 100% compostable and biodegradable. But don’t worry, it won’t start to break down with the first heavy rain. It’s only biodegradable under specific circumstances, like planting it in the ground!
Made in Spain by the good folks at Equilicua, the durable raincoat educates passers-by with an eye-catching label that promotes recycling in a fun and unique way.
The Spud Raincoat does a good job of explaining exactly what biodegradable plastic is, and how to recognize the difference between types of plastic. The label “OK COMPOST” (see bottom image) guarantees that both material and additives respect the environment by turning into fertilizer as they decompose.

After the coat has served out it’s useful life keeping you dry, it can be tossed into the compost bin... or better yet, planted in your garden. Each coat contains a small clay ball, which houses and protects seeds. Simply plant the coat, and the raincoat and clay ball nourish seeds like herbs and flowers, which sprout into lovely plants for you to enjoy.

Great use for bioplastic for this kind of item
I'm tired of raingear that rips or gets holes after a use or two or a season or two. This way, that torn raincoat can have a new life in my municipal compost, and later, in my home garden. Spuds into raincoats, raincoats into spuds!
Each of us can make a difference. Together we make THE difference!
