The Intersection of Lean and Green

The Lean and Green Summit will bring to light the deep connections between lean manufacturing principles and green initiatives. Both inherently seek to reduce waste, so explore how the proven business strategy of lean (a strategy already at work in your company) can naturally be applied to issues of sustainability. Join your peers in industry July 17-18, 2008 in Boulder, CO for this groundbreaking event! www.leanandgreensummit.com

Not Your Average Conference

Far from a traditional conference where “experts” talk AT you, this next-generation conference will involve attendees with a high degree of peer and presenter interaction. Presentations will be short and broken up by deep discussion and exploration in small and large groups, Summit participants will walk away with new knowledge and a personal action plan. To accomplish this, the proven collaboration tools of Open Space and World Café will be utilized.

Open Space Technology

Open Space Technology is an engaging, participative methodology that is designed to help people self-organize in order to focus productively on the issues that matter to them as a group. Developed by Harrison Owen, the process encourages individuals to identify and host conversations and to invite others to participate, by choice, in the topics of interest to them.  It is effective in situations where a diverse group of people must deal with complex and potentially conflicting material in innovative and productive ways. www.openspaceworld.org

World Café

An intentional way to create a living network of conversations in which new knowledge, new relationships, and creative insights can emerge.  Developed by Juanita Brown and David Isaacs of Whole Systems Associates, from their extensive experience with grass-roots community organizing and social change, the process simulates conversations one might have with a small group of people in a café setting and encourages cross-pollination of ideas.  It has been used worldwide in corporations and communities to engage multiple stakeholders in questions that matter to them collectively. www.theworldcafe.com

Summit Outcomes

Two outcomes are expected to come from the Summit:

  1. The collective group will create a new body of knowledge in addressing issues of sustainability, knowledge which beforehand did not exist.
  2. Participants will leave with an actionable plan for moving their companies along the path to sustainability.

Who should attend?

The Lean and Green Summit is designed as an executive level event. Senior leadership and their entire planning teams should come prepared to address the growing demand for sustainable businesses.
