Eliminating the concept of waste
MBDC (McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry) is a consultancy founded in 1995 by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, two of the world’s leading thinkers on sustainable design and green chemistry. Together, MBDC and its co-founders have developed and implemented the innovative concept of Cradle to CradleSM, an approach to sustainability that models human industry on nature's "biological metabolism," by also developing a ‘technical metabolism’ flow of industrial materials. Product components can be designed for continuous recovery and reutilization as biological and technical nutrients within these metabolisms—in McDonough and Braungart’s words, “eliminating the concept of waste.” Cradle to Cradle also addresses energy, water and social responsibility.

The Cradle to Cradle vision is helping to spur marketplace innovation, as well as provide an engaging vision for individual companies and entire industries. MBDC’s successful work with various clients representing numerous industries has enabled Cradle to Cradle to become a widely accepted objective of ecologically-intelligent design and credible achievement. The list and diversity of certified products is just one measure of the rising value being attributed to MBDC and the Cradle to Cradle brand. The growing world-wide adoption of the Cradle to Cradle framework across company product lines and services is an even a better indication of MBDC’s value as a strategic consultant and design partner.
