Solar Photovoltaic

  • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) is the process of turning sunlight into energy.
  • The basic building block of PV technology is the solar “cell.”
  • Multiple PV cells are connected to form a PV module.
  • Unlike solar thermal systems for heating water, PV does not use the sun’s heat to make electricity. Instead, electrons are freed by the interaction of sunlight with semiconductor materials in the PV module and captured in an electric current.
  • When the suns rays hit the absorber layer, which absorbs the incoming photons, it generates electrons.
  • The energy of the absorbed light is transferred to the semiconductor
  • After it is transferred to the semiconductor it is able to be transported to the inverter box.
  • The inverter box converts the energy from DC (direct-current) to AC (alternating current) power.
  • After the inverter box, the energy is carried to the electric panel where it is dispersed for daily electrical use.
